Transforming Marietta Smiles with Dental Implants
Tooth loss can be devastating to oral health and self-esteem. Additional tooth loss, bone deterioration, and periodontal disease are very real consequences if teeth aren’t replaced, and many patients find themselves too embarrassed to speak or smile. Thankfully, Dr. James Merriman is happy to offer multiple reconstructive solutions including dental implants, our most recommended solution due to their durability and lifelike appearance. Whether you’re missing a single tooth or an entire arch, please contact us to learn more about how dental implants transform smiles.
The Dental Implant Process
Once Dr. Merriman determines you’re a candidate for dental implants, treatment begins with the surgical placement of implants into the jawbone. Following this procedure, patients need to undergo a period of healing. While this three to six month gap may seem lengthy, there’s a crucial purpose – implants need time to bond with natural tissue and bone creating a durable foundation for new teeth. At some point, you undergo the surgical placement of abutments that attach to the top of implants connecting the dental prosthetic to the implant.
Finally, you return to our Marietta, GA practice so Dr. Merriman can attach new, high-quality restorations to your implants, giving you the complete and beautiful smile you’ve been missing.
There are several benefits to choosing implants over other, more traditional treatment options, including:
- Because implants replicate both the crown and the root of the tooth, the density and strength of the patient’s jawbone is preserved and possibly regenerated, resulting in revitalized health.
- Implant restorations look and feel so much like natural teeth that they can be treated just like them – no frustrating changes to oral hygiene routine or diet required.
- Implants have a high success rate, and as long as they’re cared for properly, many patients are able to enjoy them for the rest of their lives.
While all-ceramic dental crowns are typically used to restore individual implants, patients with significant tooth loss may prefer a simpler option. This can be achieved with an implant-retained prosthetic. By having a small number of implants placed strategically, we can design a denture (or even modify your old one) to snap over them, giving patients much more security and confidence to smile brightly.
Accuracy is crucial when it comes to dental implants, and here in Marietta, GA, Dr. Merriman is happy to use state-of-the-art technology to make your care perfect.
