The first step towards achieving optimal oral health is being able to stop dental problems before they start. Here in Marietta, Dr. James Merriman offers several preventive dentistry services that allow us to discover damage at the earliest stages and protect smiles with minimal care. Patients save time and money with the help of our dedicated staff, and are sure to leave smiling after experiencing our friendly and exceptionally skilled service.
Your First Dental Checkup
Our team strongly recommends patients attend at least two appointments a year at a trusted dental office, and we’d love to welcome you to ours. During your first visit, Dr. Merriman welcomes you to the consultation room where you’ll discuss your dental history and any goals or specific treatments you have in mind. Then, you’ll proceed to a treatment room so that he and his assistants can gather all the information they need about the state of your oral health. Once we have the full picture, a concrete diagnosis and recommended plan of action can be provided.
From that point on, we hope that you’ll return every six months so we can provide another in-depth evaluation and refreshing oral cleaning. Additionally, we provide periodontal treatment if you’re struggling with damage and deterioration caused by periodontal disease, and an oral cancer screening allows us to locate any potentially cancerous cells as soon as possible, significantly increasing your chances of undergoing successful treatment. Dr. Merriman’s goal is to always be as thorough as possible while helping patients feel comfortable and at ease in our Marietta practice.
Nightguards for Teeth Grinding
Do you suffer from painful morning headaches, an unusually sore jaw, or teeth that simply look more and more worn down over time? These symptoms usually point to bruxism, known more commonly as teeth grinding. Nearly 1/3 of the population struggles with bruxism, and because it tends to happen while patients are sleeping, it can be near-impossible to manage on your own. This is a serious problem, as over time, these uncomfortable symptoms develop into much more severe problems like TMJ disorder, insomnia, eating disorders, and depression.
If you think you may be suffering from bruxism, please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Merriman to schedule an appointment. After a thorough evaluation of your teeth and soft tissue, we provide a personalized oral appliance known as a nightguard. Nightguards provide a barrier against teeth grinding or reposition the jaw in a subtle, comfortable fashion so that it’s less likely to occur, depending on your needs. Whatever the case is, we work to discover your solution to rest easy throughout the night.
