Take Your Smile from Average to Dazzling
If you have multiple cosmetic dental flaws, the thought of undergoing several treatments to improve your smile may seem a little too overwhelming. Wouldn’t it be better if you could just give your look a complete do-over all at once? High-quality veneers from Dr. James Merriman accomplish just that. You can think of veneers as a new surface for your teeth, hiding years of cracks, stains, and gaps under a brand-new, gorgeous porcelain sheath.
What are veneers?
Veneers are very thin pieces of dental porcelain designed to fit over certain teeth or an entire smile. They’re customized to look just like natural teeth, only straighter and brighter so patients enjoy a perfect smile. Dr. Merriman even designs veneers to alter the size or shape of certain teeth, depending on personal preferences. Our Marietta, GA dental team learns all of this information during the initial consultation.
Once we’ve determined veneers are the best treatment option, the procedure requires two to three appointments. During the first one, Dr. Merriman removes a small amount of natural tooth enamel from the affected teeth and takes impressions to send to a trusted lab. In the meantime, he provides you with a temporary veneer that maintains your appearance and helps you get used to the look and feel of veneers. Once we’ve received the permanent veneer, you return to our office so they can be bonded in place completing your new and improved look.
Porcelain Veneer FAQs
Porcelain veneers in Weatherford are an excellent way to take your smile from average to dazzling! As with any other cosmetic dental service, we want you to feel 100% confident in how you choose to improve your pearly whites. That’s why, for your convenience, we’ve gathered a few frequently asked questions about porcelain veneers below so you can learn more about them!
Can Anyone Get Porcelain Veneers?
While most everyone is a good candidate for porcelain veneers, you’ll first need to visit your Weatherford cosmetic dentist for a consultation to make sure they’re right for you. During this initial visit, we’ll talk with you about how you want to transform your smile. Then, we’ll closely inspect your teeth. Oral health conditions like tooth decay and gum disease can threaten the success of your porcelain veneers, so we’ll create a treatment plan to address these issues first if needed. Once your oral health is on track, you’ll be ready to get your brand-new smile!
How Many Porcelain Veneers Do I Need?
Each porcelain veneer is unique and custom-made, so you can use this versatile treatment to correct one tooth or several at once. However, we typically recommend getting veneers in pairs, such as your front two, four, six, or eight teeth for the most seamless and lifelike results. During your consultation, we’ll fully explain all of your options for changing the appearance of your teeth and help you determine how many veneers you’ll need to achieve your dream smile.
Are Porcelain Veneers Permanent?
To have your veneers placed, we’ll need to remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of your tooth or teeth. This ensures that they lay flat with your other teeth and form a strong bond with your natural tooth structure. Once the veneers cover this area of your tooth, they’ll be protected from damage, decay, and sensitivity. However, since enamel doesn’t grow back, these teeth will always need to be protected with veneers. Thankfully, you can easily expect your veneers to last 20 years or more before needing to be replaced!
Does It Hurt to Get Porcelain Veneers?
At first, you may feel alarmed to hear that you’ll need to have some enamel removed to have your veneers placed. However, you have nothing to fear! This minimally invasive procedure only needs to remove a layer of enamel about as thick as a contact lens. We’ll use a local anesthetic during your treatment to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the process. It’s normal to experience some tooth sensitivity for a few days afterward, but any discomfort should be minimal, easily managed, and short-lived.
How Are Porcelain Veneers Cared for?
Your new porcelain veneers will be stain-resistant and impervious to decay. However, the teeth underneath them won’t be! It’s important to continue practicing great oral hygiene to keep your dazzling smile healthy and sparkling by:
- Brushing your teeth for two minutes twice a day.
- Using high-quality waxed floss and non-alcoholic mouthwash.
- Using a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste.
- Refraining from chewing on hard objects and grinding your teeth.
- Visiting your dentist twice a year for routine checkups and cleanings.
